Dawda Mann joins forces with AKT Peerless and Albion College to donate to the Kalamazoo River Wildlife Cleanup
On July 31, 2010, Brian Considine, an attorney with Dawda Mann’s Environment, Energy and Sustainability practice group delivered a van load of supplies to a nonprofit wildlife relief organization near Battle Creek that is assisting with the cleanup of wildlife impacted by the oil pipeline spill near Marshall, Michigan. The supplies included things such as, towels, sheets, blankets, rubber gloves, dishwashing detergents, vegetable oil, tyvek suits, garbage bags, water and energy bars. These items were collected and donated in a group effort that was coordinated among Dawda Mann, AKT Peerless and Albion College. According to Mr. Considine, the wildlife center representatives were very appreciative of the much needed donations, especially the tyvek suits and oil absorbent materials. After dropping off the supplies, Mr. Considine visited a stretch of the Kalamazoo River several miles downstream from the location of the spill, where cleanup personnel were still working and he viewed the effects of the spill first hand. According to Mr. Considine, the banks of the river were coated with the thick tarry oil and there was a prominent visible sheen of oil on the surface of the water. “As soon as I opened the door of my car I was hit with a very strong odor of oil in the air. I can’t imagine how tough this must be on the local residents and wildlife. The effects on this river are going to be felt for long time.” Several wildlife rescue groups are still accepting donations. If you are interested in donating, information can be obtained on Facebook at Kalamazoo River Oil Spill Donation Center.
